Vipers will be without suspended head coach Nikola Kavazovic when they host rivals and champions SC Villa at St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende on Saturday.

The hosts come into the game in a ‘crisis mode’ having suspended their coach with new addition to the technical bench John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda expected to take charge of the game along with co-assistant Fred Muhumuzza.

They are aware that nothing but maximum points are needed against the Jogoos after faltering in the goalless draw with league newcomers Lugazi in their last outing.

With only four points at this stage, Vipers are six points adrift of leaders KCCA and need all points to trim the gap.

The Kitende based side have managed just one win and face a stern test in Morley Byekwaso’s SC Villa who also need to close the gap at the top to just one point going into the international break.

Villa bounced back from defeat at Mbale Heroes to beat one of the title favourites Bul 2-1 in a dominant performance and will hope to build on that.

Key Players

Allan Okello has started the campaign in fine mood and will be the key actor for the Venoms but will need support from skipper Milton Karisa and Yunus Sentamu to prosper.

For Villa, reigning league MVP Patrick Kakande will be the main man alongside Ugandan international Ronald Ssekiganda with South Sudan international striker Francis Onekalit leading the line.

Key Stats:

  • SC Villa are unbeaten in their last three league matches [W1, D2]
  • In the last 12 league matches at Vipers, the Venoms hold edge with 5 wins [L3, D4]
  • Vipers haven’t lost to SC Villa at Kitende since a 1-0 loss in 2020 [W3, D1]

Elsewhere, URA make a long trip to Mbale 1999 Uganda Cup winners Mbale Heroes are lurking.
