The 2024 FEASSA Games officially climaxed at the Bukedea Comprehensive Park main stadium in Teso region, Uganda on Monday, 26th August in Bukedea district.
Hosts Uganda were crowned as the overall winners for the fourth successive year, toppling the rest of the opposition; Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.
Uganda amassed a total of 13 gold medals, to Kenya’s 11 golds to be declared winners during the official climaxing ceremony also witnessed by the ISF president Laurent Petrynka, Uganda’s state minister of sports Hon. Peter Ogwang, commissioner Rev. Canon Duncans Mugumya and the FEASSA/USSSA president Justus Mugisha.
The epic 10-days of epic action was co-hosted by Amus College Bukedea and Bukedea Comprehensive School in both Bukedea district and Mbale city.
Action unfolded in a number of sporting disciplines; both outdoor and indoor.
Uganda was unstoppable with dominance in Table Tennis (Boys and Girls), Football (Boys and Girls), Handball (Girls), Netball (Girls), Basketball (Boys and Girls), Swimming (Boys and Girls), Badminton (Boys and Girls) and Athletics (Girls).
Kenya who played second fiddle had a field day at office in Hockey (Boys and Girls), Handball (Boys), Tennis (Boys and Girls), Athletics (Boys) and Rugby (Both 15’s and 7’s).
In some of the exciting closing matches; Uganda’s Amus College School dethroned St Mary’s Kitende’s dominance in football (boys) with a 1-0 victory played on the astro turf of Amus College School.
Abdul Razak Muzamiru struck into the top roof of the net for the all-important goal in the 56th minute.
This sweet victory was overshadowed by the tear gas fired into the excited fans who ran onto the astro-turf to celebrate with the players and officials.
“We are happy to win the football trophy. Last year, we lost in the finals to the same time in Huye, Rwanda. This is a revenge. It has been long overdue after losing two finals in this year at the nationals and in China. The trajectory is real” an excited Nimrod Kintu, Amus College School head coach stated.
The girls’ football finale was won by St Noa Girls School Zzana 1-0 past Kenya’s Butere Girls at the fully packed Bukedea Comprehensive park main stadium.
Slyvia Kabene’s first half penalty was the decider of the game that produced sparkling moments.
Netball climaxed at Bukedea Primary school playgrounds with mouth-watering end-to-end action that witnessed St Mary’s Kitende edge Kawanda Secondary School in over-time.
Normal had ended 38 goals apiece before St Mary’s Kitende won it 46-44 in the extended time.
Kenya will host the next FEASSA Games which bring together schools from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda.
