When the goals were going in trophies were being lifted, you would often back page photos of the smiling duo of Andrew Mukasa and Hassan Mubiru.

The Mu-Mu attack blossomed most at SC Villa and on the national U-23 side but also played together for Express and Uganda Cranes.

But off the pitch, the two were far from friendly towards each other but to their credit, they put that aside for the greater good of the teams they played for.

They were often paired together in the same attack especially under Paul Hasule at Villa, with Mubiru’s vision and awareness as a no.10 complementing the razor-sharp finishing of Mukasa as a predatory no.9.

With rumors of the two not getting on well and Mukasa getting mental instability later in his career, Mubiru reflected on his relationship with his strike partner in a recent extensive interview on Vybe Life Ug.

“We were never on good terms off the pitch ever since I joined SC Villa,” answered Mubiru when asked about his relationship with Fimbo.

“But as professionals, we couldn’t show it,” he added.

“We played together and I created so many goals for him because it was all about the team but in reality, there was a broken relationship and it all started when I joined Villa.”

Mubiru went to explain how it all started; “His mother came to me while at Golden Table and didn’t know her. She sardonically told me I had come to take his son’s position and warned that will never happen and it hurt me.”

Mubiru left Villa for rivals Express FC after two fruitful years where his partnership with Mukasa saw the two score a combined 72 league goals in 1999.

Mukasa then a year later forced a move out of Villa Park to join Mubiru at Express to the dismay of Mubiru

“I was shocked when Kirumira (Express Chairman) told me Mukasa calls him and wants to come to Express because he says he wants to play with you.”

The soft spoken Mubiru who had stints in Rwanda with APR bragged that he was a more complete player and had no reason to bewitch his teammate although he admired Mukasa’s superb finishing and ball control.

“I have heard lots of tales of how I bewitched him but you can’t stop from talking but all that is nonsense. I had no reason to do that. I am Muslim who believes in Allah and besides, I was a more complete player although I admired his ball control and finishing and those are two areas where I agree he was better than me.”

In the same interview, Mubiru also revealed how he nearly re-joined SC Villa in 2005 but the deal fell through after Ben Immanuel Misagga was denied chance to lead the club in a botched club election.
