From Cleaner to Company Manager!! Joseph Kasirye’s Inspiring Journey of Determination

My name is Joseph Kasirye, and I reside in Mukono, Uganda. For several years, I served as a cleaner at a private logistics firm located in Kampala. My duties were basic yet demanding—sweeping floors, emptying trash bins, and wiping down office windows early each morning before the employees arrived. I began that job in 2015, a year after completing my Senior Four. I couldn’t proceed with my education because my parents couldn’t manage the school fees, so landing that cleaning position felt like a stroke of luck.

I was always timely and respectful. I gave my all to the work. While other cleaners clocked out early, I stayed late to mop the floors again or organize the storage area. I never protested, even when tasked with cleaning toilets or sweeping the compound beneath the scorching sun. I hoped that one day, my dedication would be recognized and that I might be offered a chance to work in the office. But for six long years, nothing changed.
