Action-Oriented: Young Leaders Convene at City Hall for National Community Youth Parliament 2026 to Shape Local Policy
KAMPALA, UGANDA — The Lord Mayor’s Parlour at City Hall yesterday transformed into a vibrant hub of democratic engagement as it hosted the landmark National Community Youth Parliament 2026. Organised by the Network for Active Citizens (NAC) in partnership with HADE and Host Hub, and backed by strong support from the Danish Network, the event provided a critical platform for young leaders to deliberate on inclusive governance and community development.
The high-profile gathering was officially opened by the Rt. Hon. Nalongo Namazzi Olive K. In a strong show of leadership and solidarity, Hon. Minister Luyombya Godfrey attended the event, representing both himself and Lord Mayor Balimwezo Ronald Nsubuga.
The Parliament brought together a powerful, diverse coalition of stakeholders, including:
• Youth Leaders: Dedicated representatives from the Youth Councils across various divisions of Kampala.
• Civil Society: Visionary leaders from various civil society organisations (CSOs) championing local development.
• International Partners: Delegates from the Danish Network of Local Youth Councils (NAU), fostering global cross-cultural collaboration.
Throughout the session, youth parliamentarians engaged in robust dialogue, sharing diverse perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing their communities.
The event successfully strengthened collaborations between grassroots youth structures, civil society, and international partners, cementing the role of young people as central actors in shaping local governance.
By bridging the gap between young citizens and policy spaces, the National Community Youth Parliament 2026 has set a renewed benchmark for youth-led advocacy and inclusive decision-making in Kampala and beyond.
