The 9th season of the Chaapa League (alumni football event for Mbarara High School old students) will officially climax on Saturday, 21st September 2024 at the NEC playground (Coffee) in Bugolobi, Kampala.

Team Rwizi (class of 2015) will be crowned as champions, dethroning last season’s winner, Chwezi.

On the menu as well will be the Bull’s tournament whose winner last year was Team Matu.

Over the last 9 months, 26 teams played more than 330 games in 19 outings.

Jacob Kabigumira, Chaapa League chairman addressed the media on Saturday morning at the Oak Hall, Kabira Country Club in Bukoto, Kampala about the upcoming climax.

Kabigumira rallied the old students, partners, fans, family, friends and other well-wisher to join in the official crowning ceremony.

“I invite our League Partners, Old boys, fans, family and friends to join us on the 21st September 2024 at the NEC Grounds in Bugolobi as we climax the Season 9 in a spectacular fashion celebrating Unity & brotherhood. We shall also be recognizing the best performers and individuals /companies/teams who have dedicated their invaluable service and contributed to the growth and development of the league.” Kabigumira revealed.

The 2024 champion (Rwizi) will be rewarded with a shield, gold medals. There is a trophy for the Bulls’ tournament winner, medals for the top performers (top scorer, mvp, best goalkeeper) and others.

Genesis:

The Chaapa League was birthed way back in 2017 and has since grown in stature and popularity.

The league has grown its membership and fan base making us one of the biggest Old students sports Brands.

The Chaapa league now has its line of Merchandise and has sold over 500 pieces since its launch in 2023.

The league is an inclusive league with a ladies’ team – Holistics from MaryHill High School.

Bulls Tournament:

For the Bulls tournament, each team has a lady player in its ranks and eight teams (Chogm Fc, Dingswayo, Yobo Yobo, Msamiati, Kaatara, Mutakoha, 99 Dynamos & Karasande) qualified for the quarter finals stages and will tassel it out to be crowned champions of the 2nd edition of the Bulls Tournament.

The league has also attracted partnerships from different sectors of the Economy; we would like to recognize our season 9 partners; Guinness (UBL brand), Uganda Batteries, SliverBacks Events & Lounge, Innovation Consortium, Cavendish University, TBia Kitchen Mart & Khunda Cleaning Services. We would also like to appreciate the over 30 Team sponsors that have supported the different Teams.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR):

The Chaapa League has had a strong Corporate Social Responsibility arm attached.

Last season, they partnered with UNRA and planted trees along Mbarara Highway.

They have also organized health camps with blood donation drives.

By and large, the Chaapa League has witnessed the further growth of Mbarara High School with full representation on the school board and also recently made a significant contribution to the rebuilding of the Addis dormitory.
