Newcomers Lugazi will get a first taste of premier league football when they welcome Kitara FC on Saturday at Lugazi stadium, Najjembe.

The highly anticipated clash will test their readiness for the big stage against a side with both quality and experience and fresh from playing on the continent despite early exit from the Caf Confederation Cup.

Coach Sadiq Ssempigi is aware of the threat the Royals possess but remains adamant his side have the capacity to match them.

“Kitara is a very good team and a very tough challenger. They have had very good games in the preseason, I watched most of their games in the FUFA Super8 and the confederations cup,” he told the club website.

“They are very ambitious, play well and they have fared well in the market – they really have good players who I think will give us a very tough challenge.”

“But I want to accept that we are at home and we know the kind of opponent we are going to face. We are going to work hard to make sure we answer most of the questions they will bring. We believe they are going to be a tough team but my players are ready to take up the challenge and deliver the best.”

The hosts will hope their experience lads in Bashir Asiku, skipper Richard Ayiko and the rest are alert at all times.

For Kitara who finished last season in 4th position and with a Uganda Cup in their trophy cabinet, the target will be to start on a winning note to build on last season’s success.

Forwards Denis Omedi and Jude Ssemugabi fresh from playing on the national team will be vital for Brian Ssenyondo’s men who beat SC Villa 2-1 in their league opener last season.
