Baby Cricket Cranes suffer defeat to Tanzania in Opening Game of U-19 World Cup Qualifiers

ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifiers | Uganda vs Tanzania | Match Summary
- Tanzania 189/8
- Uganda 116 all out
- Tanzania won by 73 runs
The Baby Cricket Cranes put down eleven (11) chances in the field which haunted them in a big loss to their East African rivals Tanzania.
Uganda won the toss and elected to bowl first, a strange decision considering the clear blue sky that would favour batting first.
Tanzania lost two wickets early but that was the only reward for Uganda as a 97-run partnership between Captain Laksh Bakrania (60) and Karim Kiseta (51) anchored the innings for Tanzania who eventually finished on 189/8.
Abdul Aziz Tandia (3/26) and Musa Majid (3/27) were the pick of the bowlers in a situation where the ball was tossed around the whole team to just try and get a grip on things. However, Uganda gave away over 40 extra runs in the field due to some sloppy fielding.

In the run chase, Tanzania’s prime bowler Khalid Juma got rid of the big wicket of Gerald Olipa, and that stuck a dagger in the batting line, with Devenah Patel (25) managing to anchor the innings but with no one helping him out.
All the batters came and left with little impact as Uganda struggled in their batting innings.
Gurjivn Singh (16) delivered some nasty blows at the backend but it was only enough to reduce to loss margin with the slow bowling options of Tanzania claiming nine wickets between themselves.
Uganda is on the back foot on matchday one and there will be no time for them to mourn the loss because another East African derby awaits them tomorrow against Kenya.
A loss tomorrow will knock them out of the running for a World Cup place, and therefore, they will need the gods to be with them against a known enemy.
