High Court orders Black Market Records to pay Bruno K Shs 130 million for copyright infringement

Bruno K has won a major legal battle against the US owned music label, Black Market Records, with the High Court ordering the label to pay him Shs 130 million for copyright infringement and withholding his royalties.

Bruno K signed a contract with Black Market Records on May 12th 2020, but later realized it was an unfair deal and chose to terminate it.

However, the label refused to release his royalties, claimed ownership of his music and a legal battle followed until today.

The court has now ruled in his favor, awarding him:

• Shs 100 million in general damages

• Shs 30 million in aggravated damages

Bruno K, overjoyed by the victory, thanked fellow artist Eddy Kenzo and the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) for supporting him throughout the case.

He also expressed gratitude to his legal team for helping him reclaim his rights and get justice.
