Baby Cricket Cranes go down to Kenya in U-19 World Cup Qualifiers

ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifier Africa | Uganda U-19 v Kenya U-19 | Match Summary

  • Uganda 67 all out
  • Kenya 69/3
  • Kenya U-19 won by 7 wickets

The Baby Cricket Cranes’ World Cup hopes were dealt a huge blow after another heavy defeat to East African neighbours Kenya.

Uganda needed a win to stay in touch with the leading group, but a heavy defeat left the team with a small outside chance and their fate in their own hands.

Uganda won the toss and elected to bat first but a hattrick from Neel Doshi tore through the Ugandan top order and the side never recovered from a position of 8/6 and only a rare guard resistance from Peter Ocen (28) and Ali Balidawa (16) saved Uganda the embarrassment of the lowest total in U-19 Qualifiers history.

Uganda was bundled out for only 69 runs inside 20 overs.

In the run chase, Uganda picked up two wickets early, but that is all the effort they got as Kenya managed the run chase very well and got home and picked up the win by three wickets.

Baby Cricket Cranes Head Coach Emmanuel Isaneez said; “Our players have failed to take responsibility while out in the middle, we lost the game in the first innings because we did not put enough runs on the board.”

Uganda has three more games to play against Namibia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone and they will play for survival to stay in the first Division of the African Region.
