Uganda’s opponents in group K, Congo began their qualification campaign for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on a winning note beating South Sudan 1-0 on a day of wins.

Chandrelle Massanga scored the winner in the 12th minute to hand the hosts a deserved three points and move top of the group that also has Uganda and South Africa who face off on Friday.

Tunisia earned a late win over Madagascar beating Madagascar 1-0 in Tunis thanks to a late strike by veteran Ferjan Sassi.  

Algeria also began the campaign with a 2-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea with Hossam Aouar and Amini Gouiri scoring the goals in the second half.

In Kumasi, Felicio Milson struck late to help Angola stun hosts Ghana in front of a packed Baba Yata stadium, Central African Republic beat Lesotho 3-1, Burundi overcame Malawi in a five goal thriller away from home while Guinea Bissau edged Eswatini 1-0.

Action on match day one of the Road to Morocco continues with several matches on card including South Africa hosting Uganda in Johannesburg at 7pm.

Kenya host Zimbabwe at Mandela National stadium, Namboole, Sebastien Desabre’s DR Congo take on Guinea, Sierra Leone hosts Chad while Liberia are away to Togo.

In other fixtures on Friday, Morocco host Gabon, Burkina Faso take on Senegal in a West African affair, Mali tussle it out with Mozambique, champions Ivory Coast face Zambia, Morocco host Gabon and Cape Verde visit Egypt.
