USAID Funding Sparks BJP-Congress Clash Amid Finance Ministry Report
BJP

The ongoing political tussle between the BJP and Congress over USAID funding in India has escalated following the release of the Finance Ministry’s Annual Report 2023-24. Congress has accused the American agency of inflating its funding figures, claiming this has negatively impacted India's ability to fully utilize the funds. The party also dismissed USAID’s claims that its financial aid is linked to voter turnout initiatives in India.

Congress vs. BJP Over USAID Claims
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized the BJP’s stance, stating that USAID currently runs seven projects worth $750 million, none of which relate to increasing voter turnout. In response, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya countered that these projects were initiated in 2010-11 under Congress rule and are part of a government-to-government partnership. He further accused Congress of collaborating with foreign entities to interfere in India's democracy.
