Uganda Cubs over power Tanzania to reignite World Cup dream

Uganda U17 Men’s National Team, the Cubs kept the dream of qualifying to the FIFA U17 World Cup alive after overcoming neighbours Tanzania.
After a disappointing start to the tournament against hosts Morocco on Sunday, the Cubs recovered to beat Tanzania 3-0 today at the Bashir Mohammedia Stadium.
Tanzania ended the game with a player less after defender Hussein Ally Mbegu was sent off early in the second half.
Uganda had an incredible display right from kickoff, dominating proceedings with Isma Magala and captain Richard Okello coming close in the first half.
The breakthrough eventually came in the 61st minute when Simon Wanyama was well stationed to score from James Bogere’s lay up.
Skipper Okello doubled the lead for the Cubs six minutes from time, capitalizing from the rebound when Bogere’s initial effort was saved by the goalkeeper.
Deep in stoppage-time, Uganda was awarded a penalty when Tanzanian defender Mohammed Makarani handled the ball in the area.
Bogere calmly took the resultant penalty to seal the win for Uganda.
Uganda will now wait for the final group game against Zambia on Sunday to know their fate. A win against Zambia will automatically take Uganda to the World Cup.
