Deco Mutebi yearns to maintain winning momentum after 2025 Pearl of Africa Golf Series success


Professional golfer Herman Deco Mutebi is a darling at his home club in Entebbe.
Since his early days in the sport as a caddie, Mutebi is adored by most members who religiously affiliate to this 1901 founded lake side club.
This was amplified during the four rounds of the Entebbe leg for the 2025 Pearl of Africa (POA) golf series which Mutebi led from start to finish to win the professional category with a total 5-under 279 in 72 holes.
The Numax Cinemas and Aviation Africa sponsored professional was clinical during the opening round with 3-under 68 gross mark.
He maintained the leadership grip with 2-under-69 on day two, 1-over-70 during the third round and 1-under 70 on the final round to win by a 2 stroke margin off second placed Tadeo Rodell Gaita.



During his victory speech on the 19th hole, Mutebi did not mince words.
Rather, he hit the nail by the head with showers of praise to the different members who have supported him in his golfing journey right from amateur to now professional level.
“I thank all the members who had stood with me” he applauded as the gallery roared in excitement.
“I thank the sponsors, the Uganda Golf Union, Katongo and Kabalaza members and team Challengers” he added.

This was Mutebi’s second major as professional since the 2023 triumph on the Kenya Golf Day tournament.
He yearns to build onto the POA victory for greater strides.
“I will maintain my business on the course, greens and the range for more victories in the upcoming tournaments” Mutebi, a former footballer spoke of his vision.





















Twenty professionals made the cut to partake on the Ug.Shs 20,000,000 prize money kitty of which Mutebi took the lion’s share.
Meanwhile, in the gross category, Michael Tumusiime won the elite-gross cluster with a total of 214 in 54 holes played over 3 days.
He was two strokes better than Elton Thembo (216). as the duo of Joseph Reagan Akena and Joseph Kasozi each played 217 to tie in third place.
Godfrey Kambale (219) completed the top five positions to have a claim of the Ug.Shs 5,000,000 total prize money kitty.
A total of 64 gross players played in the championship.

A number of partners are proudly associated with the pearl of Africa golf series as Vivo Energy, MTN Uganda, Aquafina, Home Bliss, Nbs sport, Mighty Rides, Uganda Golf Club, Entebbe Club, Lugazi Hills & Country Club and Uganda Golf Union (UGU).
The opening leg was played at the Uganda Golf Club (Kampala) with the second one held in Entebbe.
The third and final leg of the series shall be hosted in Lugazi come June.
