Tables turn on Entebbe’s giants in Mbale 7s

Plascon Mongers and Walukuba Barbarians, semifinalists from the Entebbe 7s last weekend, have not qualified for the men’s Cup Quarterfinals in Mbale. The two finished third in pools D and C respectively during Mbale 7s’ Day One this Saturday.

Additionally, Entebbe champions Rhinos and runners-up Buffaloes came second in their pools A and B respectively. The two were undefeated until they met in the Cup Final last weekend.

Their fortunes appear to have fallen in the hands of perennial 7s series protagonists Heathens, KOBs, Hippos, and defending champions Pirates.

Pirates did not concede a single point in their matches while Heathens and KOBs only conceded just once each. Hippos had to recover from a first-round defeat against Rams to top their pool.

Men’s Cup Quarterfinals for Mbale 7s:

  • QF 1: Heathens vs Warriors
  • QF 2: Hippos vs Buffaloes
  • QF 3: KOBs vs Rhinos
  • QF 4: Pirates vs Rams

In the women’s competition, Black Pearls and Avengers maintained their form from the first round into Mbale. No team scored a try against Avengers while Black Pearls allowed one against them.

The women’s Cup Semifinals will be confirmed after concluding the pool matches on Sunday morning.
