Spain won their second Olympic men’s football gold medal with a spirited 5-3 win (after extra time) over France at the Parc des Princes Stadium, Paris city on Friday evening.

France rallied from 1-3 to make it level and force extra time during their final against Spain.

France took the early through Enzo Millot’s 11th minute strike past goalkeeper Arnau Tenas.

Spain quickly responded with two quick goals past goalkeeper Guillaume Restes by Fermin Lopez in the 18th and 25th minutes.

Three minutes later, Alex Baena made it three to silence the fully packed gallery as the Spaniards led 3-1 by the mandatory half time break.

France pulled back another goal with 12 minutes to play through Maghnes Akilouche to create a tense finishing to the game.

Jean Philippe Mateta leveled the matters with a well-struck penalty in the third minute of added as the referee Ramon Abatti called for the 30 minutes of extra time.

Sergio Camello had a decent chip past the goalkeeper for Spain’s fourth goal after 100 minutes of action.

Spain netted the fifth goal from Camello after goalkeeper Arnau Tenas’s long throw in a quick counter-attack.

This contest was officiated by Brazilian referee Ramon Abatti Abel.  

This is the second Olympic men’s football gold for Spain after they won in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.

France’s last victory came 40 years ago at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles city, United States of America (USA).
