CAF Women’s Champions League: Hosts CBE see off Rayon Sport in opener | CECAFA Qualifiers

The 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers officially got underway on Saturday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

In the only game of the day played at Abeb Bekila Stadium, hosts Commercial Bank of Ethiopia Football Club (CBE FC) secured a narrow win over Rayon Sport from Rwanda.

Despite trailing 3-0 by the 50th minute, Rayon Sport stepped up efforts to score twice in the closing minutes of the game.

CBE FC took an early lead, scoring just a few seconds after kickoff through Senaf Wakuma.

Aregash Tadese doubled the lead with a curling effort in the 42nd minute before completing her brace four minutes after restart.

Jeannette Ukwikunda and Jeanne Mukandayisenga scored a goal each for Rayon Sport in a losing effort.

The action continues on Sunday with Kenya Police FC taking on Yei Joint Stars from South Sudan.

Uganda’s representative Kawempe Muslim who are in Group B will face PVP Buyenzi on Monday. In the same group, Simba Queens from Tanzania will take on FAD FC of Djibouti.
