Mbale Heroes return to the Uganda Premier League

Mbale Heroes are back to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League after over 19 years in lower divisions.

The once giant killers of the league beat Onduparaka on Sunday to earn their slot amongst the teams for the 2024/25 premier league season.

Mbale Heroes, relegated in 2005 following a dismissed court case are 3rd on the log with 49 points, seven ahead of Kataka with only three points to fight for.

The Eastern Giants now join Police who lead the standings on 53 points and second placed Lugazi FC on 50 points.

By the time they were relegated, they had spent over 10 years in the top division and also lifted the Kakungulu Cup (now Stanbic Uganda Cup) in 1999.

Mbale Heroes and the Premier League

Mbale Heroes, a crowd puller in the East earned their first promotion in 1994 when they beat defunct Posta 2-0 in the Super Mini League at Mbale Municipal stadium.

They were however relegated in 1995 but struck a deal with Diary and played as Diary Heroes in the 1996 season.

They regained their full name the following season until 2004.

The trio replace Arua Hill, Busoga United and Gaddafi who were relegated at the end of the 2023/24 campaign where SC Villa emerged champions.
