Friday was not only captain’s runs day ahead of the 2024 men’s Rugby Africa Cup but also when the participating nations revealed their matchday squads.

All quarterfinal matches will be played at the Mandela National Stadium Namboole from 10 a.m. local time (EAT). Uganda will face Zimbabwe in the fourth quarterfinal at 4 p.m. EAT.

The Sables pulled the trigger first with their team news. Experienced scrumhalf Hilton Mudariki will captain the squad which has three players set to make their test debuts.

Uganda waited for nightfall to release their 23-man list. Two exciting talents await the milestone of their first caps; Jones Kamiza and Pool Kalungi.

Recent and historical form is in favour of the visitors Zimbabwe. They have a 10-5 winning advantage over Uganda, and won the last three meetings. The latest was a 32-26 victory during the Victoria Cup at Legends Rugby Club in August 2019.

However, times and generations have significantly changed since then and both teams are now new-look squads.

Both coaches have opted for a 6-2 split on the bench in anticipation of a physical matchup. But also, their backlines are laden with internationally renowned personalities and athletes.

This promises to be a cracking encounter from kickoff until the final whistle.
