Newly rebuilt Nakivubo Hamz stadium, Nakivubo has been overlooked by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) amongst the stadia clear to host preliminary rounds of both the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

CAF has only cleared two stadiums in Uganda – Mandela National stadium, Namboole and St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende, home to Vipers SC.

The news will come as a big blow to the management of Nakivubo who are hoping the stadium will pass the test to host Afcon matches come 2027 under the East Africa Pamoja.

Uganda will be represented by SC Villa and Kitara in the Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively.

Meanwhile, SC Villa opponents CBE in the first preliminary round will host their match away from home as no stadia has been passed to host matches in Ethiopia.

Other neighbouring nations without passed stadiums include Burundi, Kenya, Congo, Djibouti, South Sudan and Sudan among others.
