Despite no defeat in three group games, SC Villa could face early elimination from the 2024 Kagame Cup.
The Jogoos could only manage a 1-1 draw with Rwanda champions APR in their final game yet a win would earn them an automatic place in the semi-finals.
Najib Yiga scored the equaliser for Villa cancelling out an early strike by Olivier Dushimimana which had given APR the lead.
Despite missing four-star players in Ronald Ssekiganda, Charles Lwanga, Reagan Mpande and Misi Diego Ssemugera, Villa pushed for the winner but Taddeo Lwanga’s APR remained resilient.
The draw leaves Villa on 5 points, two behind APR who qualify for the semi-final as outright winners from group C.
With results in group A going SC Villa way after Somalia’s Dekedaha stunned Zanzibar’s JKU with a come from behind 2-1 to earn their first points of the tournament despite elimination and also Al Wadi of Sudan drawing 1-1 with Coastal Union, Villa now wait on the match between Red Arrows and ASAS Telecom in group B.
Villa will hope ASAS Telecom hold or beat the guest team for them qualify for the semi-final.
