Uganda’s Leonard Chemutai missed out on the podium during the men’s 3000m steeplechase final at Stade De France in Paris city, France on Wednesday night.
Chemutai completed the tough race in the 15th position (8:20.03) after falling with about 500 metres to the finish.
The race was won by Morocco’s Soufiane El Bakkali who successfully defended his title.
This was the fourth successive global title in the event for El Bakkali.
The Moroccan emerged from the pack on a frantic final lap to win in 8:06.05.
USA’s Kenneth Rooks took a surprise silver in a big personal best (8:06.41), finishing 06 ahead of Kenya’s Abraham Kibiwot.
Tunisian Mohamed Amin Jhinaoui came fourth with 8:07.73, a new national record.
Another Tunisian Ahmed Jaziri was fifth with a personal best of 8:08.02.
World record-holder Lamecha Girma had a bad fall with 200 metres to go and was a non-finisher.
By Wednesday night, Uganda had managed to win two medals; a gold medal in the men’s 10,000m event by Joshua Cheptegei and a silver from Peruth Chemutai during the women’s 3000m steeple chase.
