Nile Special, the title sponsor of the Uganda Rugby national 7s Series, has increased its sponsorship package for the 2024 edition to UGX 570 million from last year’s UGX 520 million.

The announcement was made by the beverages manufacturer’s brand manager Eric Malinga during the launch event held at the Travellers Hotel in Entebbe on Thursday morning.

Malinga also rallied the fans to join the party as the series embarks on a tour of the country.

“As the No.1 Fan of Uganda rugby, we pledge a truly unmatched 7s atmosphere from the first circuit in Entebbe this weekend to the last one at King’s Park Arena on October 05-06th. While it will be knocks, side-steps and tries on pitch, off it will be a fun affair all day long with numerous fans’ activations to win goodies, subsidized drinks, music and eats. Our rallying call is to the fans to bring all the vibe to the games, the party is assured,” Malinga said.

Uganda Rugby Union’s chief executive, Isaac Lutwama appreciated the investment in the short code of the game whose results on both men’s and women’s national sides speak for themselves.

The Nile Special 7s Series is the major platform where the next generation of players will be identified and picked for the national team.

“To a good degree most Ugandans appreciate the investment that is being injected in our national rugby 7s side and the results are showing. But this requires consistent investment at all levels of the game, by all stakeholders, and clubs are the bedrock of this. This is why raising the stakes at the national level, strongly includes raising our game at the club level by, among other reasons, getting them competitive platforms to hone their skills,” said the URU CEO.

The 2024 Nile Special 7s Series, which will feature both men’s and women’s competitions for the second successive year, will be played over seven rounds from August 10-11 until October 5-6.

It kicks off this weekend with the Entebbe 7s hosted by Plascon Mongers at the Works Grounds in Entebbe.
