  • UCU Lady Canons 73-44 KIU Rangers (1-0)

Namuwongo Blazers secured a 79-61 victory against KIU Titans in game one of the National Basketball League semifinal series on Friday night at Lugogo Indoor Arena.

This gave the Blazers a commanding 1-0 lead in the highly anticipated best-of-five semifinal series.

The Titans struggled to get their rhythm back shortly after Peter Obleng’s early blitz and found themselves trailing by 13 points (27-14) at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Blazers never looked back but rather kept their foot on the gas pedal as they opened an 18-point lead going into the long break.

Despite the Titans’ improvement in the second half, where they shared spoils (15-15) in both periods, the Blazers were still stuck in the driving seat.

Innocent Ochera once again had a thrilling game against his former paymasters, recording a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Jimmy Williams (21 points), Joseph Chuma (17 points), and Peter Cheng (13 points) also contributed massively for the Blazers in double digits.

On the other hand, only Peter Obleng (17 points) and Edgar Munaba (12 points) scored in double figures.

Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday at the same venue.
