- KIU Rangers 54-51 UCU Canons (1-1)
KIU Rangers levelled the semifinal series (1-1) after beating UCU Canons 54-51 in game two of the National Basketball League on Sunday at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
UCU Lady Canons opened a narrow lead of four points (14-11) at the end of the opening quarter in an end-to-end encounter.
The Lady Canons extended their lead to seven points (27-20) as they were stuck in the driving seat going into the long break.
Despite the fight from the Rangers, the Canons maintained a lead of four points (37-33) at the end of a physical third quarter.
In the final quarter, the Lady Canons were punished for reckless turnovers thanks to Rangers’ pressure defence.
The Lady Canons were limited to 14 points, and Rangers dropped 21 points their highest in a single quarter.
After a poor show in game one, Sharon Kirabo was instrumental in the Rangers’ victory, posting a double-double after scoring 17 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
Ines Kanyamuneza added 17 points as the other Ranger to score in double digits.
On the other hand, only Bridget Aber (12 points) and Tracy Namugosa (10 points) managed to score double digits.
