Omedi magic guides Kitara to FUFA Super 8 semis

Denis Omedi’s outstanding performance was the difference as Kitara FC earned a slot in the semifinals of this year’s FUFA Super 8 Tournament.

In a thrilling encounter played between KCCA FC and Kitara FC on Tuesday evening at MTN-Omondi Stadium, Omedi was the star man.

The closely contested game ended in a three-all draw thus ensuring Kitara progressed 4-3 on a aggregate.

Joel Sserunjogi opened the scores as early as the 9th minute with his curling effort from distance beating goalkeper Crispus Kusiima.

The lead for KCCA FC last a few seconds with Omedi levelling matters a few seconds later off an outragious rabona kick.

The lethal forward first rounded off defender Hassan Mahmood before finding the back of the net to send the entire stadium on its feet.

In the 36th minute, Kitara took the lead with Omedi turning provider for Jude Ssemugabi whose low drive went into the bottom left corner.

Bright Anukani was however able to level matters from the spot at the stroke of halftime when the referee adjudged Ronald Otti to have shoved Etienne Katenga to the ground.

Three minutes after recess, Ssemugabi got his second goal of the day thanks to yet another incredible assist from Omedi off the left wing.

KCCA FC were able to level matters again throuh defender Muhamood who rose highest to head home in the 53rd minute.

Despite efforts in the closing stages of the game from the hosts, Kitara held on to advance 4-3 on aggregate.

The Royals will now face Vipers SC in the semufinals. The latter drew 1–1 at NEC FC in the first game of the day thus advancing on away goals rule since the first leg in Kitende had ended goalless.
