KIU Rangers levelled the semifinal series after beating UCU Canons 54-51 in Game 2 of the National Basketball League Playoffs on Sunday at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
UCU Lady Canons opened a narrow lead of four points (14-11) at the end of the opening quarter in an end-to-end encounter.
The Lady Canons extended their lead to seven points (27-20) as they were stuck in the driving seat going into the long break.
Despite the fight from the Rangers, the Canons maintained a lead of four points (37-33) at the end of a physical third quarter.
In the final quarter, the Lady Canons were punished for reckless turnovers thanks to Rangers’ pressure defence.
In the final period, the Lady Canons were limited to 14 points, and Rangers dropped 21 points their highest in a single quarter.
After a poor show in game one, Sharon Kirabo was instrumental in the Rangers’ victory, posting a double-double. The power forward scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
Ines Kanyamuneza added 17 points as the other Ranger to score in double digits.
On the other hand, only Bridget Aber (12 points) and Tracy Namugosa (10 points) managed to score double figures.
