UCU Lady Dolphins drew first blood against JKL Lady Dolphins after registering a well-deserved 71-66 victory in game one of the National Basketball League final on Wednesday evening.

In the game that was played at Lugogo Indoor Arena, Nicholas Natuhereza’s side gained a 1-0 in the best-of-seven final series.

An impressive defensive show helped the UCU Lady Canons to open an eight-point (15-7) lead at the end of the first quarter.

Ekone Brenda’s jump shot concluded the second period as the JKL Lady Dolphins trailed by 17 points (40-23) going into the long break.

The JKL went for a full-court defence that forced the Lady Canons into several turnovers before they reduced their deficit to eight points (52-44) at the end of the third quarter.

Momentum swung into the Lady Dolphins’ way as the Lady Dolphins further narrowed down their deficit to one point (52-51) with 8:15 minutes to play.

The Lady Canons held their nerves deep in the game to seal off an eight-point victory after a thrilling encounter.

Shakira Nanvubya (21 points), Tracy Namugosa (17 points), and Shilah Lamunu (11 points) led the Lady Canons’ scoring charge in double digits.

On the other hand, Jane Asinde (17 points), Brenda Ekone (13 points), and Hope Akello (12 points) scored for the Lady Dolphins in double digits.
