Dutch stance runner Hassan Sifan won the women’s marathon at the 2024 Paris Olympics in France.

Sifan clocked the 2 hours, 22 minutes and 55 mirco-seconds to triumph in the grueling 42-kilometre race, well watched by hundreds of people along the Paris streets.

This was a new Olympic record set by Sifan under sunny weather conditions on Sunday morning.

Ethiopian Tigst Assefa took silver with 2:22.58 and Kenya’s Hellen Obiri settled for bronze after running a time of 2:23.10, her personal best time over the distance.

Another Kenyan, Sharon Lokedi was fourth with 2:23.14.

Uganda’s Stellah Chesang gave a spirited gallant fight, crossing the finishing line 8th with a time of 2:26.01.

Another Ugandan, Rebecca Cheptegei was 44th overall with 2:32.14 whilst Mercyline Chelangat was 69th (2:39:40).

A total of 79 athletes completed the women marathon race with 12 runners not finishing.

The women marathon had a grand total of 91 runners taking part.
