NBL Finals: Petty pours in 34 as City Oilers take control

The American guard Petty Parish scored a game-high 34 points as City Oilers took control of the series with a 2-0 lead.

City Oilers secured a well-deserved 70-64 victory against KIU Titans in game two of the final in the National Basketball League on Friday evening at Lugogo Indoor Arena.

The KIU Titans started the game with the much-needed enthusiasm and fight but failed to meet the record champions’ scoring prowess.

The Titans opened a narrow four-point (15-11) lead against the City Oilers at the end of the opening period.

The Kasanga-based side kept on the front foot, thus increasing their lead to six points (28-34) at the end of the second period.

Coming from the long break, Parrish Petty took matters into his own hands, converting four shots beyond
the arc.

The impressive show in the third quarter helped the City Oilers create a four-point lead at the end of the period.

With four minutes left on the clock, the Titans suffered a massive blow as Joel Lokoji limped off the court after with a knee injury. He later returned, but his rhythm was never the same.

At the end of the day, the City Oilers walked away with a six-point victory.

The other outstanding player for City Oilers was Titus Lual, who registered a double-double, scoring 10 points and making 21 rebounds.

In the same breath, Fayed Baale joined the scoring party with 13 points.

On the other hand, Edgar Munaba (14 points), Mpiya Juf (12 points), and Peter Obleng (10 points) led the Titans’ scoring charge in double digits.

The two sides will return to the same ground in game three on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
