Following a 3-1 defeat at the hands of NEC on Sunday in their league opener, Vipers coach Nikola Kavazovic thinks otherwise of the Venoms lifting the 2024/25 season league trophy.

The Serbian, speaking in a post-match press conference revealed how his target is different from what the management set and sights the centre back pairing of Paul Mbowa and Livingstone Mulondo as one that can’t play together and took the blame for the defeat.

“If head coach chooses centre halves that are individually extremely good but can’t play together especially because of high level of miscommunication especially with the goalkeeper, then there is only one person to point the finger to and that is me,” said Kavazovic before revealing the club target and his own for the campaign.

“Everyone who expects Vipers to lift the trophy on the end of the season should think. Is it realistic picture or not? 29 games to go, we can win the trophy, we can win two trophies but also can relegate to first division.

“The realistic target of the management is to win the league and also play finals of the Caf Champions league next season but my target is to finish in the top three and play Caf through winning the cup.”

The gaffer also revealed that his first-choice pair of centre backs Hilary Mukundane and Rogers Torach missed out through injury although both were named on the bench.

Vipers next task is a tough assignment against Express on Thursday at St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende a game they must win to get their campaign firmly on track early on.
