For the second year running, Kansai Plascon Uganda Limited has joined in sponsoring the Buganda Masaza football tournament.
For the 2024 edition, the number one paints manufacturers in Uganda have contributed Ug.Shs 100,000,000 for the season.
The development was revealed by the company’s managing director Santosh Gumte during the official launch of the tournament at Bulange Mengo.
“As a brand that believes in creating a colourful world for the communities we operate in, we have today invested Ug.Shs 100,000,000 in sponsorship to help Buganda Kingdom’s preparations and plans ahead of the 2024 Masaza cup tournament” Santosh revealed.
The managing director emphasized the key factors for their cooperation with Buganda Kingdom through sports.
“Plascon Uganda has focused its strategic approach in the investment of sports because it is a unifying power breaking religious or political divides. It is an economic activity both directly and indirectly, a point of interaction” he added.
They join other sponsors as Airtel Uganda, Cbs radio, BBS Telefaina, Pilsner, Nivana water and Centenary Bank to support this annual championship.
Buganda Kingdom prime minister (Katikiro) Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga lauded key partners as Kansai Plascon.
“We are humbled for the key partners we have as Kansai Plascon. They have come at a time we need them and I urge the subjects to also support them” Owek. Mayiga stated.
Two long term rivals in the Buganda Masaza football competition Bulemeezi and Buluuli will square off in the official opening match of the 2024 edition.
The contest will be held at Kasana stadium in Luweero district, as confirmed by the local organizing committee headed by Sulaiman Ssejjengo.
Bulemeezi is the defending champion of this tournament that bars big league, topflight and national team players.
This season, they are led by veteran coach Paul “Latest” Nkata who is working alongside Godfrey Wasswa and other members.
At their Kasana fortress against neighbours Buluuli, Bulemeezi will be pushed by the passionate home crowd as they target to rewrite history by becoming the first team to defend the crown successfully.
It however remains a puzzle to be filled given the urge and preparations from the other teams including the five-time champions Gomba, three-time winners Mawokota, Buddu, Ssingo, Busiro, Kyadondo and Buluuli themselves who won the title in 2011 after edging Bulemeezi in the final at Nakivubo war memorial stadium.
Buluuli comes to this opener as underdogs given the status-quo because in any opening match, it is always a winner takes it all battle.
