The fourth edition of the Kampala Ghetto Youth League successfully climaxed at the Nsambya Miti turf playground in Makindye division, Kampala city.

Ajax Soccer Soccer clinched the boys U-12 group, Katwe based Titans Soccer Academy won the girls U-15 category and YEGA charity soccer academy from Kibuli triumphed in the boys’ U-17 category.

Titans Soccer Academy edged Mugambe Soccer Academy from Mengo 1-0 courtesy of Irene Mugerwa’s soletary strike in the final.

Ajax Soccer Academy out-shot Dream for Africa 2-1 in post match penalties after normal time had ended scoreless.

YEGA Charity Soccer Academy edged Kamwokya’s Swag Titans 12-11 in spot kicks after yet another goal-less draw.

This league was organized by Gals Forum International and Sebian Football Initiative with support from Nsambya Catholic Church, Confederate of Pentecostal and Evangelical (COPE) Education and sports ministry, Miss Tourism Uganda, among others.

The Kampala Ghetto Youth league is aimed empowering the slum children and youth in talent and games skills development as alternative ways of succeeding in life, keeping them busy from engaging in idle & criminal activities as well as linking them to opportunities in education & sports for survival.

A big following watched the thrilling games at Nsambya

The Gala attracted over 2000 youth from the slum (Ghetto) settings all over the five divisions of Kampala, with over 80 teams participating in this two day event that ran from 22nd – 23rd May, 2024 at Yes Sports Centre in Nsambya.

The event was graced by one of the high profile ghetto products in Eddy Kenzo who had his youth team, Big Talent, also participate.

Others were; Miss tourism project administrator Loice Namara Kalamuka, Kabalagala LC. III Makindye Division councilor Hassan Katende, Coach Ian Ssebaka, Esther Namboka and Ivan Nsubuga.

Over 80 Teams participated with an average of 25 team players from each team which saw an overwhelming participation of over 2000 Youth in the Under 12, 15 and 17 with 21 Girls Teams participating in the age category of Under 15 and 17.

Individual outstanding players:

MVPs:

Joshua Aronda was most valuable player in U-17 category with goalkeeper Benediction Amisi the MVP in the U-12 cluster. Vivian Watera was the girl’s U-15 MVP.

Top scorers:

Aisha Namukwaya scored 5 goals to take the golden boot for the girls. Arnold Mutuhaire was the U-12 sharp shooter with 12 goals whilst Mustafa Oloyo was top scorer of the U-17 category with 8 goals.

Pre-match customs for the U-12 boys’ teams prior to kick-off

The organizers pledged to the participating teams that the next edition which will run in the schools second term holiday.

This will be more spiced up with more youth empowering engagements and more prizes to be won.
