Allan Toniks explains choice to join Uganda National Musicians Federation over Uganda Musicians Association

Allan Toniks has explained his decision to align himself with the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) instead of the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA).

His explanation comes at a time when UMA is preparing for its elections, raising curiosity about why some artists prefer one organization over the other.

Toniks initially joined UMA before later opting for the UNMF. However, he clarified that this move was not about favoring one organization over the other but rather about choosing the body that holds a broader mandate.

He explained that UNMF serves as the umbrella organization overseeing various associations, including UMA.

UMA is an association under the Federation, meaning that if the Federation is like a country, associations are the districts.

So, the Federation doesn’t have members, but you can be a member of an association because it’s them that represent at the Federation.

He says that he could not be active in both organizations simultaneously, and given the structure of the music industry, he decided to align himself with the UNMF.

He believes that the Federation, under Eddy Kenzo’s leadership, has a stronger position to advocate for major issues such as copyright amendments and broader industry reforms.
