During the 29th graduaion ceremony oof KIU on Saturday

Over 2,313 students graduated from Kampala International University (KIU) in different disciplines, on Saturday 13th July 2024, while KIU also welcomed and installed Prof. Muhammed Ngoma as their new Vice-Chancellor.

Internal Affairs Minister Major General Kahinda Otafiire who was the chief guest at the 29th graduation ceremony urged the youth not to sit back but to stand up and join the fight against corruption which he said puts a bad image to the country's leadership.

“Do not allow people to tell you, we are stealing on your behalf. Leaders do not steal, we do not elect leaders to steal. Tell us sorry, enough is enough you have to stop here” he said

The minister told graduates that since they hold the future in their hands, it's their responsibility to plan how to continue from where their leadership ends.

“What we are managing isn’t ours; it’s not our own estate; it’s your resources. And we are in power with your will and authority. Therefore, young people, I implore you to pick the battle where we are dropping it and struggle for freedom for mankind and for yourselves” he said

The Minister also said “Leaders don’t steal. We don’t elect leaders to steal. Nobody with their soul should glorify corruption, whether they stole and shared with you or not. You steal 10, then share with us 1, and then you say you’ve stolen on our behalf. Did we send you to steal?”

Prof. Yunus Mgaya, Chancellor, KIU in his remarks said "I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the teaching and academic staff members. These individuals bear the primary responsibility for conducting the university's instructional activities diligently daily"

The Chairman, Board of Trustees, Dr. Al-Haji Hassan Basajjabalaba while congratulating the graduates called upon them to be ambassadors of the institute they have been skilled from.

"I congratulate you on your success in your various specializations. I request you to be good ambassadors of KIU wherever you will be" he said

In the speech of the incoming Vice Chancellor Kampala International University, Professor Muhammed Ngoma, he said "Go out there and continue to explore the heights. Build the soft and employability skills on top of what we have given you at Kampala International University"
