The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has assured the participants at the 2024 Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon of top security before, during and after the event.
The third edition of this globally recognized marathon will take center stage on Saturday, 24th August in Kasese with competition in 42KM, 21KM, 10KM and 5KM.
Brigadier General Felix M. Kulayigye, the UPDF director Defence Public information issued a detailed statement curtailing the security status in Kasese.
“The UPDF is committed to ensuring a secure environment, allowing participants to focus on the race and enjoy their time in Kasese. We ask for cooperation from all attendees. If you notice anything suspicious or concerning, please report it immediately to the nearest security personnel or UPDF officers, who will be stationed throughout the event ready to address any concerns.” Brigadier General Kulayigye remarked.
“The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) warmly welcomes runners, visitors, and supporters to Kasese for the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon” he added. 
The Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon celebrates resilience, determination, and unity among participants from diverse backgrounds.
Since its inception in 2022, the event has promoted health, supported athletes, and raised environmental awareness.
This year’s event is particularly special, hosting participants from Uganda and 32 other countries, including international influencers.
Kasese’s stunning landscapes and the majestic Rwenzori Mountains provide a unique setting for the marathon.
The running kit was officially unveiled by Uganda Breweries Limited’s Commercial Director, Emmy Hashakimana, alongside other key stakeholders and sponsors in Luzira last week.
The newly unveiled kits combine both functionality and style tailored to enhance the performance of every participant.
This year’s Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon kit features a dual-colour scheme: a blue shirt for the 21km race and a green shirt for the 5km, 10km, and 42km races.
The colour distinction is meant to aid race logistics, allowing organizers and marshals to easily identify runners and guide them on their race route considering that there are some points that will be overlapping along the route.
In addition to the runners’ shirts, this year’s kit also includes a new drawstring bag, complementing the water bottle and waist bag.
With runners from over 30 countries registered, the marathon continues to gain international recognition and organisers have aspirations to reach the standards of iconic global races.
The Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon has the unique advantage of being among the most picturesque races with runners going through a national park, crossing the equator and soaking in the breath-taking views of the majestic Rwenzori Mountain Ranges.
The Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon also has the backing of other esteemed partners including Standard Chartered Bank, Britam, Coca Cola Beverages Uganda, Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife & Antiquities, CFAO Mobility, Uganda Wild Life Authority, PSFU, Uganda Airlines and Great Lakes Safaris.
