The 14th edition of the ICPAU woodball championship officially climaxed in Lwengo district.

The day-long tourney was hosted by St Mary’s Kitooro primary school with Philip Foundation secondary school.

Over 500 primary school pupils and secondary school students were engaged in this tournament.

Female junior woodball player in action

Jeremiah Tumuhimbise of Kyazanga modern primary school was outstanding in the stroke men singles event with 19 strokes.

Tumubimbise was a stroke better than Rahim Tusubira (Kyazanga modern primary school) whilst Joshua Moe Lokoli Lomanat of Shekinah Glory Christian international school (23).

The girls’ stroke women singles’ in the junior category was won by Davinia Awili (Shekinah Glory Christian International school) with 24 strokes.

Hildah Glory Nassimbwa (Kyazanga modern primary school) and Heri Shanitah Chebet (Shekinah Glory Christian international school) also scored 24 strokes.

Junior woodball action

Men singles’ youth:

Darry Gilles Amanyire (Airforce secondary school) scored 45 strokes to win the stroke men singles youth category.

He was a stroke better than Our Lady of Africa SS Namilyango’s Emmanuel Ekayu.

Another Our Lady of Africa SS Namilyango player Henry Benjamin Kasumba scored 48 strokes.

Teams:

Kyazanga Modern primary school was the overall men team in the juniors’ category with 88 strokes.

The triumphant team had Reagan Abaasa (27), Isaac Matsiko (24), Stuart Mugema (25) and Jeremiah Tumuhimbise (19).

Shekinah Glory Christian international school (103) and St Mary’s Kitooro primary school (103) settled for silver and bronze respectively.

The men stroke team (youth) was won by Our Lady of Africa SS Namilyango (194).

Luzira Secondary School (220) and Standard High School Zzana, Ndejje Campus (220) were second and third respectively.

For the 14th year running, this tournament was sponsored by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) to a tune of Ug.Shs 25,000,000.

To ICPAU juniors open is within the frame of our 10 year strategic plan. Considering the open outside Kampala was a fulfilment of striking a regional balance and accomplishing the clauses in the news sports policy of covering 2/3’s of the country.
