Without the Establishment of the Agricultural Cooperative Bank, Uganda Won't Achieve Much from SDG Agenda 2030 –Magufuri

The assessment known as The Local Government Management of Service Delivery (LGMSD) Report 2023 was launched on Thursday, June 20, 2024, by President Yoweri Museveni at the Speke Resort Convention Center, Munyonyo in Kampala, produced by The Office of the Prime Minister.

The Lt (Rtd) Moses Mugisha Magufuri Babyomera, The Lead Promoter and Coordinator of The Agriculture and Co-operative Bank highlighted that in a bid for Uganda to attain the desired achievements of Sustainable Development Goals by 2023 there is need to establish the agriculture-focused bank to drive farmers’ production and growth.

“Uganda's hope of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) remains a dream until the country establishes the Agriculture and Cooperative Bank,” he said

Magufuri was speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the Local Government Management of Service Delivery (LGMSD) report 2023, last week.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

The short titles of the 17 SDGs are: No Poverty (SDG 1), Zero Hunger among others.

The Local Government Management of Service Delivery (LGMSD) Report 2023 that was launched started in the 2014/ 2015 financial year, with the objective to promote effective behavior, systems and procedure change in order to improve local government’s administration and service delivery.

The report focused on five performance areas, including education, health, water and environment and microscale irrigation.

According to Magufuri in a recent publication “The Bank will also strengthen Rural Area Cooperatives at Parish and Sub country levels hence create jobs, supply genuine seeds and herbicides and farm tools Through those established and partnering farmer own cooperatives at grassroot levels and will finance processing cooperatives and individuals , recommend for them rightful suppliers of machinery  to end expert of unprocessed farm products like coffee, cocoa , Soyabean, Milk, Rice among others”
