World Athletics Championships: Shida Leni Misses 400m Semis Spot
Uganda’s Shida Leni missed out on a place in the Women’s 400m semifinals at the ongoing 2025 World Athletics Championships.
Leni finished 5th in her heat, posting a time of 51.61 seconds, which was not enough to advance. The qualification format allowed the top three athletes in each heat, along with the six fastest losers, to progress to the next round.
Earlier in the day, Uganda was also represented in the Women’s Marathon. Stella Chesang produced a solid run to finish 12th, crossing the line in 2:31:13.
Mercy Chelangat came 49th with a time of 2:45:36, while Juliet Chekwel was unable to complete the race.
The marathon gold went to Kenya’s Peres Jepchirchir, who edged Ethiopia’s Tigist Assefa in a dramatic homestretch duel. Julia Paternain of Uruguay claimed bronze to complete the podium.
