UJU Condemns Abduction of Ugandan Digital Journalist Musoke.
Uganda Journalists Union (UJU) has condemned the abduction and detention incommunicado of online outlet Alternative Digitalk Media journalist, Mukose Arnold Anthony, by Ugandan security operatives.
The arrest of the journalist on Sunday March 29, 2026 outsde his office next to privately owned Metro FM radio, in broad day, has thrown journalists into panic.
Mr. Mukose is reported to have been abducted by unidentified plain clothed men after a talkshow on Ugandan Courts’s nullification of sections of the Computer Misuse Act. He was taken to his home for a search before being detained at a police station. The latest incident is largely seen as an ochestrated move to intimidate journalists, curtail access to information, suppress freedom of expression and all togther muzzle Press Freedom in the country.
Uganda Journalists Union (UJU) President Ms Evelyne Nalule condemned the abduction and detention of the journalist incommunicado. She said if the journalist committed any crime then he should have been summoned using proper channels for police statement recording and if need be, produced in court to answer any preferred charges.
“ Journalists have a noble duty to collect information, process and disseminate information to the public using a multiplicity of sources at their disposal without fear or favour,” she said,
In a statement signed by the UJU The Secretary General Stephen Ouma Bwire on Tuesday March 31st 2026, Uganda Journalists Union have joined other journalists, legal and human rights groups in demanding for an immediate and unconditional release of Mr Mukose Arnold.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Ms Rachael Kawala has confirmed detention of the journalist , adding that anytime police would produce him in court to answer charges.
Mr Mukose has in the past hosted controversial politicians including jailed opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye. The journalist is Programme Director at Alternative Digitalk, an online TV. Signed
