Union Transport Alliance Partners With United Informal Sector Forum To Drive Members’ Business Growth 

Kampala, Uganda — On 4th September 2026 — The Union Transport Alliance has today officially launched a landmark partnership with the United Informal Sector Forum. This strategic alliance brings together transporters, business leaders, and diverse stakeholders to harness the economic potential of their combined membership, streamline operations, and accelerate business growth. 

The partnership integrates different sectors, building on the Alliance’s existing foundation which began with Boda Boda riders under the United Boda Boda Riders Cooperative Union, followed by taxi and truck operators.

Mr. Senoga Fred, Business Product Advisor of the Union Transport Alliance, emphasized that the collaboration will leverage their massive numbers to dominate the market, attract investment, and unlock affordable financing. “With the partnership of the Union Transport Alliance and The Informal Sector Forum, growth of members is guaranteed," Mr. Senoga stated. "We can undertake various ventures to manufacture products for the market by harnessing the value of numbers, discipline, and systems within the Union.”

Mr. Asuman Mwanje, Boss of the United Informal Sector Forum, Chairman of the Uganda Tailors Association, and Spokesperson for KACITA, noted that the unity will directly address key systemic challenges. 

The collaboration will actively focus on formalizing member enterprises through government agencies, improving internal business dispute resolutions, and fueling long-term growth. 

To mark the launch and support member families, Mr. Mwanje announced an immediate education initiative, offering 100 full bursaries and 1,200 half bursaries for primary and secondary schools.

Key modernization and financial initiatives highlighted at the launch include:Transition to Electric Vehicles: In response to government directives on aging fleets, Mr. Grace Byere (representing Taxi Operators Chairman Mr. Rashid Sekimpi) revealed that operators have approached a foreign car manufacturing company to begin producing electric cars to compete sustainably in the transport market.

Digitalization of Trade:

 The Chairman of the National Boda Boda Riders Union urged all members to embrace digital trading systems to accelerate customer traffic and improve product accessibility.

Establishment of a Cooperative Bank:

 To provide sustainable financial relief, the Union announced plans to form a specialized Cooperative Bank. This institution will pool member contributions to offer cheap credit tailored for business expansion.

Global Exposure:

 The announcement follows a recent UGX 10 Billion study trip to Dubai, India, and China, which saw over 1,000 members travel to learn international business practices.

Bus Union Chairman Mr. Kakaire Umar commended the milestone, stating that the shared values of the partnership hold the secret to developing diverse, resilient businesses across the country.
