The former KCCA striker grabbed the opener before bagging a hattrick of assists in a one man show as ‘small team’ Kitara avenged the bitter first round defeat at Lugogo in memorable fashionable.

It was the first time this season that KCCA conceded more than twice and the first time in the league they have conceded four goals since Magid Musisi scored four for Villa in a 5-0 defeat in the early 90s at Masaka Recreation Ground.

The Stars beat Police 3-1 at Kavumba while the Purple Sharks ended a six-month wait for a league victory with a 1-0 win at Mbale Heroes.

The wins could be a springboard for the two to rejuvenate their survival chances with Wakiso Giants now just six points adrift of safety positions occupied by Mbarara City and Police. Can it happen? Eight matches remaining to play.

Police hierarchy forced to make managerial changes

Matia Lule, head coach Uganda Hippos head coach

Following defeat to Bright Stars, Police fired coach Simon Peter Mugerwa replacing him with experienced Matia Lule and Kiggundu Stephen Billy as goalkeeping coach.

Their main aim will be to save the 2005 league champions from going down and also try to win the Stanbic Uganda Cup where they are in quarter finals with a home duel against Kataka awaiting.

BUL remain the only unbeaten side in the second round of the league after yet another victory at home to SC Villa.

It is now 7 matches, 6 wins and a single draw for the Jinja based side and continue to chase the leading pack with good speed.

Villa had just ended a long Vipers unbeaten run and many thought they could do same at BUL but the Jinja based side had other ideas.

NEC falter, Vipers regain superior advantage

The points gap between Vipers and second placed NEC was just two going into this match day after Villa had beaten the Venoms on match day 21.

However, with Vipers back to winning ways in the 1-0 home win over Lugazi, the onus was on NEC to do the same at Bombo against UPDF which they failed as the army side frustrated them in a goalless draw.

That means the gap is now four points and the neutrals as well as NEC will hope it doesn’t widen before the two face off at Kitende on April 17.
