Namibia fight back against Victoria Pearls to level Capricorn Series

Capricorn Series | Uganda v Namibia
Game 3
- Namibia 124/5
- Uganda 101/4
- Namibia won by 23 runs
Game 4
- Namibia W 114/8
- Uganda W 93/6
- Namibia 21 runs
The Capricorn Eagles of Namibia have fought back from two-nil down to level the series after four games.
Uganda’s Victoria Pearls had gone ahead after the first two close games but the hosts hunger for runs helped them get ahead in the following two games.
The Capricorn Eagles’ aggression with the bat must have caught their visitors off guard with the visitors being able to pile on at least over 114 runs in the games they won.
In Game 3, the hosts won the toss and elected to bat first and some aggressive hitting at the top of the order surprised the Victoria Pearls with Kayleen Green (48) leading the way to a very competitive 128.
In the run chase, Kevin Awino (28) was promoted up the order and while she dropped anchor at the top, she got no support whatsoever from the rest of the lineup with the run chase running out of steam with 24 runs still required for the win.
Uganda struggled to switch gears and the go-to run scorer in the first two games Esther Iloku failed to make any decent contribution.
In Game 4, Sunne Whitman (54) rode her luck on her way to an aggressive half-century that enabled the hosts to pile on a competitive 114, Uganda will be happy with their bowling at the backend which allowed them to restrict Namibia to just 114 because it could have been more.
In the run chase, both openers failed to make any decent contributions, and while Immaculate Nakisuyi tried to push the envelope for the visitors once she departed, the tail failed to wag and eventually failed to get over the line with 21 runs still needed for the win. The drop-down order for Janet Mbabazi not paying off yet.
The worry for the Ugandan technical bench of Deus Muhumuza and Brian Masaba will be the fielding. As many as 18 chances have been put down by the Ugandans which eventually cost them games, especially in Game 4.
The series is very much alive between the two sides with two more games left to play in the series.
