Lt. Col. Peter Kidemuka, UPDF Project Engineer is humbled that a few hours to the long-awaited FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier between Uganda Cranes and Botswana Zebras, the major priority works almost done and dusted.

“It has been a long journey of hard work and endless hours of renovations. The remaining grey areas that were cited after the test matches on 1st May 2024 are now being completed” Lt. Col Kidemuka remarked.

The state of art floodlights, electronic stadium board, technical area benches, the playing surface, VVIP area, VIP wing, media tribune, general seating stands, fresh-water system, lavatories, eateries and every other department have been worked upon.

Four dressing rooms were improved, the entire seats fitted, 32 lavatories rehabilitated as well and the stadium hotel also renovated.

Mandela National stadium Namboole was originally constructed by the Chinese as a 45,000-seater sports facility with other games as athletics, tennis, volleyball, basketball and others.

The facility has a number of administrative offices and conference halls that are hired.

Namboole is also ear-marked to host CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027 tournaments.

Uganda Cranes will play-host to Algeria on Monday, 10th June 2024 in yet another duel.
