UBOS’s Harmonized Integrated Survey Report reveal a surge in household enterprises.
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBO) has disseminate the Uganda Harmonized Integrated Survey (UHIS) Report revealing an increase in household that operate enterprises from 36.9 percent to 38.8 percent nationally.
During the launch of the UHIS report on Thursday 21st May 2026 held at Statistics house, the Executive Director UBOS Dr. Chris Mukiza said that the report findings covers waves 1, 2 and 3 representing 2021/22, 2023/24, and 2024/25 years.
The Chairman Board of Directors UBOS Albert Byamugisa while applauding UBOS leadership led by Dr. Chris Mukiza and stakeholders for supporting UBOS in the production of statistical data, said that the UHIS indicates that Uganda is progressing in social-economic transformation, calling upon users to utilize it as a policy measure to serve different sectors.
“UHIS serves provides statistical evidence to help stakeholders to understand targeted interventions and a very important policy tool. The report shows that 66.9% households are in the money economy while 33% still in the subsistence sub-sector” he said

In the findings, the report indicates that: Nationally, employment of persons in the Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing sector has declined by 8.3 percentage between 2021/22 and 2024/25, while employment of persons in the Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing sector has declined by 8.3 percentage between 2021/22 and 2024/25.
It shows that, the percentage of people aged 15 and over who worked for subsistence fell by 4.6%.Between 2021–2022 and 2024–2025, employment in the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sectors decreased by 8.3% nationwide.
The findings also reveal that Female headed households are slowly gaining momentum against the Male headed ones, with the proportion of male heads decreasing by 2% from 66.3% in 2022 to 64.3% in 2025 and that female headed households have increased by a similar percentage.
Further findings indicate that the literacy rate among persons aged 10 years and above in rural areas increased by 15.4% from 67.8% in 2022 to 83.2% in 2025, observed to be more eminent in urban areas compared to rural areas.
The Uganda Harmonised Integrated Survey is an annual survey programme aimed at integrating the Uganda National Panel Survey and the Annual Agricultural Survey.
The survey provides data and statistics on socio-economic and agriculture indicators required for planning, policy making and informing national, regional and international development frameworks.
