Finance Minister Musasizi Presides Over Groundbreaking Of New UBOS Statistics House In Entebbe

Entebbe: The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Henry Musasizi presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new UBOS Statistics House at the UBOS Entebbe Site.

Minister Musasizi stressed the importance of investing in statistical infrastructure, noting that official statistics are key to Uganda’s socio-economic development.

Speaking at the ceremony on Thursday 6th August 2026 Musasizi said the new state-of-the-art structure will facilitate much-needed infrastructural expansion to enable the Bureau to deepen automation in data production, processing, innovation and dissemination. 

“This is consistent with UBOS leadership’s determination to deliver quality official statistics to facilitate evidence-based decision making and policy formulation for Uganda’s long-term national development,” he said.

Musasizi praised the Bureau for making Uganda proud through the promptness and efficiency with which the 2024 National Population and Housing Census was conducted and disseminated.

UBOS Executive Director Dr. Chris Mukiza while applauding government for the financial support towards the lroject said that the building will also house the East Africa Statistics Bureau which he said will go along way in great opportunities for Ugandans.

He said the building will feature data process department, training facility,a a conference hall, offices among others.

“We are champions of regional integration, we shall reserve offices for East Africa Statistics Bureau. There are economic and political benefits. Thanks for government support to UBOS” he said.  

The project will be undertaken by Roko Construction, a Ugandan company, contracted on behalf of the Government of Uganda.

Mark Kochler Chairman ROKO Construction said that they are committed to execute the construction with the highest standards if discipline and technology in the the agreed time. 

“We commend the confidence the government has place in ROKO construction company. We value the partnership. We are committed to build to the highest standards and on time. We await to stand here again to celebrate our success by way if handing over the keys to UBOS” he said

Also in attendance were the Mayor and Town Clerk of Entebbe Municipality and senior government officials.

The new Statistics House is expected to significantly strengthen UBOS' capacity to produce and disseminate timely, high-quality data for national planning.
