The mystery of the whistle in Uganda’s ‘Locomotive’ song solved

For years, fans of the all-star song Locomotive, also known as The White Song, have wondered about one unique feature: the whistling in one of the verses.

With a lineup that included some of Uganda’s top artists—GNL Zamba, Goodlyfe Crew, Vampino, Viboyo, Mr. X, Cindy, Rabadaba, and others—the 2012 hit was already legendary. But one question lingered: who was behind that unforgettable whistle?

Recently, this mystery resurfaced when Viboyo Oweyo was asked on TikTok to reveal the whistler’s identity.

Instead of answering, Viboyo left the guessing to fans. The debate didn’t end there. On X, a curious fan posed the same question to GNL Zamba. This time, the answer came.

“It was the King himself,” GNL Zamba responded, attaching a photo of the late Mowzey Radio.

And just like that, the puzzle was solved. Mowzey Radio was not only part of the song’s vocals but also the man behind the mysterious whistling.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise. After all, Radio’s influence on Locomotive was already known, with some fans noting that the song itself was initially his idea.

So, the next time you hear Locomotive and that iconic whistle echoes through the speakers, remember—it’s the magic of Mowzey Radio.
