The opening round of the 2024 Johnnie Walker Uganda Ladies Golf Open was held on Thursday, 22nd August at the par 71 lakeside Entebbe Club.

After the early morning drizzles in Entebbe and the surrounding areas, the weather quickly settled to sunny conditions as the action unfolded.

By close of business for the opening 18 holes, Tanzanian golfer Hawa Wanyeche was leading the crop with 3-over-74.

“I feel happy to lead the opening round,” Wanyeche, a member of Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam remarked.

Wanyeche had recorded four birdies with just one on the front (hole 1) and the rest coming at the back nine of the course founded in 1901 (holes 10, 16 and 17).

“I will approach the remaining days cautiously in order to remain in contention,” Wanyeche spoke of her strategy.
