Super 8: SC Villa set up Final with NEC

SC Villa booked their place in the FUFA Super 8 final after edging holders BUL 5-4 in a tense penalty shootout on Sunday.

The semifinal clash at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, saw Villa recover from an early setback before holding their nerve in the shootouts to seal a date with NEC in the final.

BUL made a dream start when Hillary Onek’s cross was turned into his own net by defender Arnold Odong inside the opening five minutes.

Villa pressed for an equalizer and were finally rewarded in the 75th minute when Najib Yiga struck a brilliant freekick past goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa.

With the game tied at 1-1 after normal time, the contest was decided from 12 yards. Goalkeeper David Lukwago proved decisive for the Jogoos, saving from Ibrahim Mugulusi and Bakali Magumba.

Villa’s Frank Mulimi missed his effort, but teammates Matovu Malouda, Reagan Mpande, Najib Yiga, Diego Hamis Ssemugera and Aslam Ssemakula all converted.

For BUL, Viane Sekajugo, Kelvin Barni, Jerome Kirya and Pascal Ngobi found the target, but it was not enough to keep their title defence alive.

SC Villa will now face NEC in the final scheduled for Wednesday at FUFA Stadium in Kadiba.
