Sibbick’s Burton Albion Considering Pre-Season Tour to Uganda

English side Burton Albion Football Club is exploring the possibility of a pre-season tour to Uganda following defender Toby Sibbick’s impressive performance for the Uganda Cranes.
Sibbick started at right-back ahead of Elvis Bwomono as Uganda Cranes defeated Somalia at Namboole on September 8, a display that has sparked a surge of support for Burton Albion among Ugandan football fans on social media.
Many supporters have expressed admiration for both Sibbick and his club since the match.
In response to the growing enthusiasm, Burton Albion’s head coach, Gary Bowyer, acknowledged the interest from Uganda and hinted at a potential pre-season tour.
He said, “It’s unbelievable. I’m not on X but I’ve been told, and it’s just fabulous. I’m delighted for Sibbs, who went and played one of the games. The most important thing was that he came back fit; everything else is a bonus. There’s been talk of a pre-season tour, I wouldn’t say no.”
While no official plans have been confirmed, the club is reportedly evaluating the logistics and potential benefits of such a tour.
A pre-season visit to Uganda would not only strengthen ties with new supporters but also provide opportunities to engage with the local football community, promote the Burton Albion brand, and explore partnerships.
Sibbick, born in Isleworth, West London, to a Ugandan mother and English father, grew up in Feltham.
He has previously played for AFC Wimbledon, Barnsley, Hearts, and Wigan before joining Burton Albion.
Burton Albion competes in League One, the third tier of English football, below the Premier League and Championship.
Since Sibbick’s international debut, the club has seen a noticeable increase in engagement from Ugandan fans on social media, marking one of the most significant boosts in following in recent memory.
